to the green sand beach

The next day, we hiked a few miles in to a green sand beach, passing several Hawaiian ruins along the way.

Rose apparently learned to squat for the photo during summer archaeology with Patrick. Some are squatters, some are sitters...


You can see the green sand beach in the distance- the green color comes from a crystal that forms sometimes when lava cools, then the sea grinds it and mixes it in with other sands.

It is really green. And great waves for body surfing.

I was going to make this another postcard (see Girls of Maui), but since no one put in an order for the first set of postcards, I guess I won't write "Aloha" on this one...
